Listed below are other agencies and organizations that provide literacy services to residents of the District of Columbia:

The Literacy Advocate a bimonthly newsletter.

1. The University of the District of Columbia
The University of the District of Columbia is the only public
institution of higher education in the District of Columbia.
It was chartered in 1974 as an urban land-grant institution
with an open admissions policy.
 
2. U.S. Department of Education,
Office of Vocational and Adult Education (OVAE)
The Office of Vocational and Adult Education provides information
on adult education, literacy, career and technical education.

3. DC Learns
This site is Washington, D.C.’s literacy education, advocacy and resource network.

4. Grants & Contracts: Regulations for Faith-based Organizations
This site has information about the participation of Faith-based and Community organizations in Department of Education programs.
 
5. National Reporting System for Adult Education

NRS Online is the training site for the National Reporting
System for adult education (NRS). This site includes training
courses designed for adult education program administrators
that explain NRS requirements and courses designed to
improve the quality of NRS data collection.
 
6. National Institute for Literacy (NIFL)
NIFL provides information about federal policy, maintains
a national database of literacy programs, and supports
participation in national initiatives.
 
7. LINCS
LINCS is the literacy community’s gateway to the world of adult
education and literacy resources on the Internet. The goal of
LINCS is to bring adult literacy-related resources and expertise
to a single point of access for users throughout the world.

8. Department of Employment Services (DOES)
One-Stop Career Centers have literacy information, referrals to
educational programs, job counseling and job search services.

9. Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL)
CAL provides research, teacher education, analysis and
dissemination of information, design and development of
instructional materials, technical assistance, conference
planning and policy analysis.
 
10. DC Department of Health

For services in Health Promotion, Preventive Health Services,
Maternal and Child Health Services, HIV/AIDS, and Addiction
and Recovery services.
 
11. VALUE - Voice for Adult Literacy United for Education
VALUE is a national organization of adult learners in the United States. Founded in 1998, The mission of VALUE is to expand the role of adult
learners as leaders in the effort to promote the success of literacy
throughout the nation. VALUE is a resource for adult learners, literacy
practitioners and policy makers as it strives to heighten public
awareness, advocate for effective policies and practice, and promote
the understanding that each and every one who wants to improve
his/her literacy skills can do so.
 
12. The Hurston/Wright Foundation
The Zora Neale Hurston/Richard Wright Foundation was established
in 1990 by novelist Marita Golden. Our mission is to develop, nurture
and sustain the world community of writers of African descent.
 
13. Project Literacy
Project Literacy is a 24 year old non-governmental organization that
provides adult basic education and training to 2500 Adult Learners in
South Africa annually.
 
14. Literacy Volunteers of America
Literacy Volunteers of America, Inc. (LVA) is a fully integrated national
network of local, state, and regional literacy providers that give adults
and their families the opportunity to acquire skills to be effective in
their roles as members of their families, communities, and workplaces.
LVA hosts an annual conference that includes workshops by and for
adult learners.
 
15. Maryland State Department of Education—Adult Education
This site contains information about adult education programs in Maryland.
 

16. Virginia Adult Learning Resource Center
This site contains information about adult education programs in Virginia.
