What We Do
The State Education Agency, Adult Education (SEA) helps adult learners in the District of Columbia gain literacy skills to improve and sustain the quality of their lives at work, at home, and in their communities. The SEA helps adult learners become more skillful in:

• Reading
• Math
• Basic Computer Skills
• English as a Second Language (ESL)
• Workplace Readiness

The GED Testing Center administers the GED Examination for residents of the District of Columbia.

Who We Serve
Adult literacy programs are designed for individuals who:

• Are 16 years of age and older
• Do not have basic education skills
• Do not have a high school diploma or its equivalency
• Need to improve their ability to speak, read, or write the
English language
• Are senior citizens seeking literacy and basic computer skills

Who We Can Help
Adult literacy programs are intended for:

• People with limited education
• Families that need basic education skills
• Adults with learning disabilities
• Single parents
• Homeless adults
• Institutionalized individuals
• Senior citizens
